Introduction
Study characteristics:
- 140 men, mean age 57
Groups:
- low-moderate intensity exercise
- usual activity
Progression of atherosclerosis assessed by carotid artery intimal- medial thickness measured by ultrasonography
Results:
- no difference between groups
- if statin users ere excluded, exercise group showed significantly less progression of atherosclerosis (0.12 vs 0.20 mm)
- C-reactive protein levels did not differ between groups
