Indications

• used sequentially with hCG to induce ovulation & pregnancy
  • in infertile women with functional amenorrhea
• used with hCG to stimulate spermatogenesis in men with primary hypogonadotropic hypogonadism
• hair follicle stimulation

Contraindications

Pregnancy category: X

Injection:

• follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) 75 units luteinizing hormone (LH) 75 units / 2 mL ampule
• follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) 150 units luteinizing hormone (LH) 150 units / 2 mL ampule

Adverse effects

Male:

• common (> 10%)
  • gynecomastia
• less common (1-10%)
  • erythrocytosis (dyspnea, dizziness, anorexia, fainting, epistaxis)

Female:

• common (> 10%)
  • ovarian enlargement, abdominal distention, pain/rash at injection site
• less common (1-10%)
  • ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome
• uncommon (< 1%)
  • thromboembolism, pain, febrile reactions
