histoplasmin (Histolyn-CYL)

Introduction

Tradename: Histolyn-CYL.

Indications

• antigen used in histoplasmosis skin testing
  • diagnosis of histoplasmosis in endemic areas
    • Histoplasma capsulatum
  • used to assess cell-mediated immunity
  • used as a control in tuberculin skin testing

Dosage

• adults
  • 0.1 mL of a 1:100 dilution into volar surface of forearm
  • induration of > 5 mm in diameter at 48-72 hours indicates a positive reaction

Injection: 0.1 mL, 1.3 mL.

Adverse effects

• not common (1-10%)
  • ulceration or necrosis may occur at the test site, pruritus, shortness of breath, urticaria

Drug interactions

• any live virus vaccine
• corticosteroids
• immunosuppressive agents
