Introduction
- metabolic acidosis with respiratory acidosis in a ventilated patient with chronic CO2 retention described by an examiner who refers to himself/herself as 'astute' in a bizzare denial of what would otherwise be interpreted as mixed metabolic alkalosis & respiratory acidosis (not compensatory)[1]
Complications
- associated with increased ventilator dependence and longer ICU stays[2]
