Etiology
Clinical manifestations
- drug-withdrawal may occur if the drug is stopped abruptly or when antagonists of the drug are administered
Differential diagnosis
- differs from drug addiction (which includes a component of opiate use for effects other than relief of pain)*
* addiction as defined does not necessitate drug dependence
