tachycardia-mediated cardiomyopathy

Etiology

• supraventricular arrhythmias
• ventricular arrhythmias
  • premature ventricular contractions (PVCs)
    • high burden of PVCs: > 10% of all beats or > 10,000 per day
    • more common in overweight men with PVCs

Clinical manifestations

• heart failure
• palpitations
• may be asymptomatic

Diagnostic procedures

• see palpitations

Management

• rate control with beta-blocker ?
• catheter ablation
• both symptoms & left ventricular function may improve with treatment
