periorbital cellulitis; preseptal cellulitis

Pathology
- infection of the skin surrounding the eye
- including anterior skin of the eyelids
- no involvement of the underlying fat tissue plane or extraocular muscles
- rarely associated with severe complications Differential diagnsosis:
- orbital cellulitis
- periorbital cellulitis lacks pain with eye movement, ophthalmoplegia, proptosis, & visual impairment
- periorbital cellulitis lacks involvement of extraocular muscles & orbital fat
- periorbital cellulitis lacks pain with eye movement, ophthalmoplegia, proptosis, & visual impairment
