Visicol (sodium phosphate)

Indications

• sodium phosphate tablets for bowel cleansing

Dosage

• 20 tablets over 90 minutes, the evening before colonoscopy, plus 20 tablets the morning of colonoscopy

Ginger ale (12 oz) following Visicol (after last evening & last morning tablet) may reduce residue interfering with colonoscopy.

Adverse effects

• seizures electrolyte imbalance, use PEG in patients with
  • heart failure
  • ascites
  • renal insufficiency
  • intestinal obstruction
  • colitis
