Introduction
genus of Gram-negative sulfate-reducing bacteria
Epidemiology
- commonly found in aquatic environments abundant in organic material & in water saturated soils
- minor component of intestinal microbiome increased by high-fat diet in mice & perhaps humans & women with BMI > 24
Pathology
- high amounts of desulfovibrio bacteria have been associated with
- increases plasma levels of leucine that in turn increases levels of myeloid-derived suppressor cells which suppress the immune system & allows tumours to grow.
