Indications
- integral part of helping patients attain a healthy lifestyle
- USPSTF recommends behavioral counseling to promote a healthy diet & physical activity for adults >= 18 years of age who are at increased risk for cardiovascular disease*
* hypertension or elevated blood pressure
* 10 year atherosclerotic cardiovascular risk of >= 7.5%
Procedure
- 6 hours of contact over 12 monts
- some 1 on 1 time with an interventionist
- use of motivational interviewing & behavioral change techniques
- goal setting
- active use of self monitoring
- addressing barriers related to diet, physical activity or weight change
