Clinical significance
- most sensitive & specific test for prion proteins in the CSF
Methods
- uses recombinant prion protein & thioflavin T fluorescence to detect small quantities of prion protein in CSF[1]
- prion protein in the CSF induces the recombinant prion protein to change conformation & form fibrils that bind thioflavin T & begin to fluoresce
