Introduction
Plant-derived non-steroidal compounds with weak estrogen-like activity. Most exist in the diet as inactive compounds, but undergo enzymatic activation in the gastrointestinal tract to compounds with a steroidal structure resembling estrogens.[2]

Indications
- may be associated with diminished risk of lung cancer[2]
Contraindications
- No benefit for post-menopausal hot-flashes[1]
