Etiology

• physical stress or emotional stress

Epidemiology

• rare

Pathology

• rupture of capillaries that feed sweat glands causing them to exude blood

Clinical manifestations

• episodes may be proceeded by intense headache & abdominal pain
• oozing of blood or blood-tinged sweat from forehead, nails, umbilicus, nose, tears
• usually self-limiting

Laboratory

• non-diagnostic

Management

• reports of successful treatment with beta-blockers
