Clinical manifestations
- at least one manic episode
- a single manic episode is sufficient for diagnosis if other causes are ruled out
- depressive episodes are common but not required for diagnosis
- some patients never have a depressive episode

- adjunctive antidepressants may be stopped after remission of depression[2]
