Etiology

• subarachnoid hemorrhage
• closed head injury

Pathology

• increased salt loss by kidney resulting in hyponatremia

Clinical manifestations

• hyponatremia occurs over hours to days rather than minutes

Laboratory

• serum sodium: hyponatremia
