Introduction
see B-type natriuretic peptide in serum/plasma
Reference interval
- threshold to r heart failure: < 125 pg/mL
- lower threshold to rule-out heart failure when BMI >=35 kg/m2: < 50 pg/mL
- threshold to rule-in heart failure: >= 500 pg/mL
- threshold to rule-in heart failure when BMI >=35 kg/m2: >= 220 pg/mL
Notes
- in patients with chronic unexplained dyspnea, current rule-in 9 rule-out thresholds lead to unacceptably high error rates
- threshold to rule-in heart failure: >= 220 pg/mL
- specificity of rule-ourraffected by obesity atrial fibrillatio
- NT-proBNP providee little value in those with atrial fibrillation & dyspnea because atrial fibrillation by itself a biomarker of HFpEF.
