SCRIB overlapping open reading frame protein (oSCRIBB)

Function

• represses translation of the downstream SCRIB protein
• translation of oSCRIB hinders SCRIB translation but does not completely abolish it, probably due to leaky scanning which allows the ribosome to bypass the weaker oSCRIB start codon & initiate translation at the stronger SCRIB start codon

Notes

• produced by a polycistronic gene which also produces the tumor suppressor gene SCRIB from an overlapping reading frame
