Introduction
Non pathogenic. Trophozoites:
- measure 8-20 um, generally 12-15 um
- sluggishly motile on wet mounts
- nucleus generally not visible on unstained preparations
- cytoplasm may contain bacteria, yeast or other material Cysts:
- ovoid, ellipsoid or trangular in shape
- 5-20 um in size, generally 10-12 um
- mature cysts contain a single nucleus
- prominent vacuole of glycogen which stains reddish-brown with iodine-stained wet mounts
- no chromatoid bodies
