S1 radiculopathy

Etiology

• involvement of L5-S1 disc affecting nerve root S1

Pathology

• involved muscles include:
  • gastrocnemeus
  • soleus
  • peroneus longus
  • peroneus brevis
  • gluteus maximus

Clinical manifestations

• Achilles tendon reflex affected
• weakness of plantar flexion of foot at ankle
• weakness of foot plantar flexion & foot eversion
• weakness of extension at hip
• lass of sensation posterior leg, lateral foot, lateral small toe
