Etiology
- prolonged PTH stimulation
Pathology
- severe parathyroid hyperplasia
Laboratory
- serum parathyroid hormone: hyperparathyroidism
- serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D
- serum calcium: hypercalcemia
- serum phosphorus
Management
- serum PTH does not respond to phosphate binders* & calcitriol therapy
parathyroidectomy often needed[1]
* unclear why phosphate binders might be used
