Structure
- carbon in the form of a hollow sphere, ellipsoid, tube, or other shape
- spherical fullerenes are called Buckminsterfullerenes (buckyballs)
- cylindrical fullerenes are called carbon nanotubes or buckytubes
- fullerenes are similar in structure to graphite, carbon is sp2 hybridized, arranged in sheets of linked hexagonal pentagonal or heptagonal rings
