perventricular leukomalacia

Etiology

• infection in pregnant patients around the time of delivery
• intraventricular hemorrhage
• more common in preterm infants, especially before 32 weeks of gestation

Pathology

• periventricular ischemia resulting in necrosis

Clinical manifestations

• motor control problems
• developmental delays

Complications

• cerebral palsy or epilepsy later in life
