Etiology
- infection in pregnant patients around the time of delivery
- intraventricular hemorrhage
- more common in preterm infants, especially before 32 weeks of gestation
Pathology
- periventricular ischemia resulting in necrosis
Clinical manifestations
- motor control problems
- developmental delays
Complications
- cerebral palsy or epilepsy later in life
