Clinical significance
- BDNF Val66Val polymorphism most common (68%)
- elderly with the BDNF Val66Val polymorphism benefit greatly from physical activity[1]
- greater physical activity levels were associated with larger volumes in the temporal lobe & hippocampus
- elderly with BDNF Val66Met polymorphism did not benefit from exercise
- greater physical activity was associated with smaller temporal-lobe volume[1]
