Indications

• glaucoma in children
  • infantile glaucoma, congenital glaucoma

* trabeculotomy is a surgery for children only

* trabeculotomy or goniotomy preferred over trabeculectomy in children

• less invasive, less likely to cause cataracts, more effective in lowering intraocular pressure

Procedure

• surgical procedure much like trabeculectomy
• apiece of tissue in the eye's drainage angle is removed to create an opening
• new opening allows aqueous humor to drain out of the eye
