Etiology
- transient neuritis (most common)[1]
- compression of the anterior interosseous nerve
- primary nerve tumor or nerve sheath tumor
- ganglion cyst
- osseous spur
- anatomical variants[2]
- trauma to the median nerve
Pathology
- damage to the anterior interosseous nerve, a motor branch of the median nerve
Clinical manifestations
- pain in the forearm
- weakness of the pincer movement of the thumb & index finger
Diagnostic procedures
- electromyography
- abnormalities in the flexor pollicis longus, flexor digitorum profundus 1 & 2 & pronator quadratus
Radiology
- ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging for suspected entrapment neuropathy
Management
- surgical decompression for entrapment neuropathy
