Etiology

• trauma
• sacroiliitis

Epidemiology

• 16% to 30% of cases of chronic mechanical low back pain

Clinical manifestations

• predominantly perceived in the gluteal region,
• referred pain including
  • low back pain, groin pain, abdominal pain, leg pain

Management

• physical therapy
• glucocorticoid injection
• cooled radiofrequency treatment of the lateral branches of S1 to S3
  • radiofrequency procedures targeted at L5 dorsal ramus & lateral branches of S1 to S3 as an alternative
