Introduction

In reference to the number of chromosome sets in a cell nucleus. Thus normal eukaryotic cells are diploid; haploid (1 chromosomal set) cells occur during meiosis. Cells in G2 or M phase of the cell cycle are tetraploid. Neoplastic cells may be polyploid or aneuploid.
