Genetics
- autosomal dominant
- genetic aberration in HMGA2
- chromosomal translocation t(3;12)(q27-q28;q13-q15) involving HMGA2 with LPP is associated with lipomatosis
Clinical manifestations
- multiple encapsulated lipomas form on the trunk & extremities, with relatively few on the head & shoulders[1]
Differential diagnosis
- other entities are associated with multiple lipomas
- Proteus syndrome
- Cowden syndrome
- disorders due to PTEN gene mutations,
- benign symmetric lipomatosis (Madelung disease)
- familial lipodystrophy
- hibernomas
- familial angiolipomatosis
Management
- cosmetic: excision vs liposuction
