Indications
- evaluation of chronic lead poisoning when lead levels are within normal limits
Clinical significance
- a high urine lead excretion post EDTA suggests elevated total body lead
- Chelation can then be used as therapy
Procedure
- administration of calcium disodium EDTA mobilizes lead deposited in tissues
- lead in urine is then measured
