DEA controlled substance class 4
- prescriptions valid for only 6 months
- prescriptions limited to 5 refills
DEA controlled substance class 2
- prescriptions in triplicate
- illegal to write multiple class 2 prescriptions for the same patient on the same day[2]
- new proposed rule would allow physician to prescribe up to 90 day supply of class 2 agents
- Dec 19, 2007, DEA will allow multiple same day prescriptions allowing a patient to receive over time a 90 day supply of class 2 controlled substance; each script still only allows for 30 days of medication[4]
