thrombin/thromboplastin (Thrombinar)

Introduction

Tradenames: Thrombinar.

Indications

• hemostasis whenever minor bleeding from capillaries & small venules is accessible

Dosage

• use 1000-2000 units/mL where bleeding is perfuse
• apply powder directly to site of bleeding or oozing surfaces
• use 100 units/mL for bleeding from skin or mucosal surfaces

Powder: (topical) 1000, 5000, 10,000, 20,000 units.

Adverse effects

• not common (1-10%)
  • allergic reactions, fever
