Indications
Procedure
- involves taking parathyroid tissue and placing it into the muscle of either the neck or forearm
- in cases where the autotransplant contains hyperactive parathyroid tissue, it is usually placed in the arm for easy access if it were to grow & result in recurrent hyperparathyroidism
- a lag of 4-6 weeks occurs (for blood supply) before the transplanted tissue becomes active
