Introduction

HCTZ/spironolactone 25/25 or 50/50.

Indications

• management of mild to moderate hypertension
• treatment of edema in congestive heart failure & nephrotic syndrome Containdications:

Pregnancy category D

Dosage

• 1-2 tabs PO QD
• maximum: 8 tablets/day

Adverse effects

• not common (1-10%)
  • headache, lethargy, rash, hyperkalemia, gynecomastia, hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis (in patients with hepatic cirrhosis), dehydration, hyponatremia, anorexia, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea
