Etiology
Epidemiology
- most common infectious cause of corneal blindness in US
- recurrence:
- 1 year 20%, 2 years 23%, 20 years 63%
- fever, stress, sunlight or eye injury may precipitate recurrence
Pathology
- painful lesion on eyelid or surface of eye
- corneal inflammation
Complications
Management
- vidarabine ophthalmic or cidofovir ophthalmic[1]
- ophthalmic glucocorticoids contraindicated[1]
