Introduction
Infestation with nematode of genus Angiostrongylus.
Pathology
Clinical manifestations
- ascending paresis of varying severity, mainly effecting the limbs & bladder (dogs)
- in severely affected animals the cranial nerves & central nervous system are affected (dogs)
- variable severe lumbar hyperalgesia (dogs)[1]
Management
- prognosis: recovery occurs in all but the most severe cases,
- corticosteroids & supportive care facilitate recovery & lessen the residual neurological dysfunction (dogs)
- antihelmintics worsen outcome (dogs)[1]
