Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin

Introduction
Food poisoning occurs as a result of the preformed enterotoxin of Clostridium perfringens. Cooked meats are the usual source.
Clinical manifestations
- nausea & vomiting develop with 1-6 hours after ingestion of contaminated food
- diarrhea follows
- spontaneous resolution of symptoms occurs within 24 hours
