Indications
- diagnosis of dengue fever
Notes
- IgM antibody response to the dengue virus infection is not detectable until 3-5 days after the onset of fever
- during this 'IgM negative window' the dengue virus is present in the bloodstream; thus leading to a false negative test
- the test shows cross-reaction with other closely related viruses including West Nile virus
- there are currently no FDA-cleared or approved tests for direct detection of dengue virus[1]
