Indications
- screening for AAA*, PAD*, high BP* reduces mortality[2]
* screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)
* screening for peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
* screening for hypertension (high BP)
Contraindications
- screening general population for cardiovascular risk factors does not improve 10 year risk of ischemic heart disease, stroke, or overall mortality[1]
- screening low risk patients with electrocardiogram (ECG)[3]*
- no benefit for screening men age 65-74 years[4]
* insufficent evidence to recommend for or against screening intermediate or high-risk patients with ECG[3]
