Indications
- USPSTF recommends against screening for COPD in asymptomatic persons[1]
- do not screen asymptomatic adults.[4]
- screen patients with chronic respiratory symptoms &/or noxious exposure (smoking, workplace vapors)[4]
History
- exposure to smoke & air pollution
- dyspnea on exertion
- history of acute respiratory illness[3]
Diagnostic procedures
- peak expiratory flow (PEF) in primary care
- men with PEF <350 L/min & women with PEF <250 L/min should be referred for spirometry[3][4]
