Boston Syncope Criteria

Indications

• evaluation of indications for hospitalization in patients presenting with episode of syncope

Management

• recommends admission for patients with syncope and
  • acute coronary syndrome
  • cardiac conduction disease
  • history of cardiac arrhythmia or cardiac pacemaker
  • valvular heart disease
  • family history of sudden death
  • volume depletion (dehydration)
  • persistent abnormal vital signs in the ED
  • primary central nervous system event (stroke, seizure)
