LINX Reflux Management System

Indications

• treatment of gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) due to a weak lower esophageal sphincter not responding to medication

Contraindications

• magnetic resonance imaging is contraindicated in patients with the device

Adverse effects

• dysphagia
• odynophagia
• chest pain
• nausea/vomiting

Procedure

• surgical placement of a string of magnetic titanium beads at the lower esophageal sphincter
• when the person swallows, the device expands to accomodate the food or drink
• once the food passes, a weak lower esophageal sphincter is kept closed by the device
