Introduction
Named after the Titans of Greek mythology. Discovered in 1791 by the British pastor Rev. William Gregor
Occurrence
- found combined in the minerals ilmenite, rutile & sphene
Characteristics
- silvery gray light metal or dark gray powder
- very strong, light metal extraordinarily resistant to corrosion
Uses
- used in alloys
- with aluminum, molybdenum, manganese, iron & other elements
- light-weight, strong, able to withstand high temperatures
- as steel
- aircraft & missles
- refractory materials & in coatings
