Blunt Abdominal Trauma in Children score (BATiC)

Introduction

Points as follows:

• 4 points for an abnormal Doppler evaluation of the renal arteries on abdominal ultrasound
• 2 points each for
  • abdominal pain
  • signs of peritoneal irritation on physical exam
  • hemodynamic instability
  • serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) >60 IU/L
  • serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) >25 IU/L
• 1 point each for
  • peripheral white blood cell count >9.5 g/L,
  • serum lactate dehydrogenase >330 IU/L,
  • serum lipase >30 IU/L
  • serum creatinine >50 umol/L (0.6 mg/dL) Negative predictive value for score < 8 is 97%
