Introduction
mechanical device that replaces the heart
Indications
- heart failure refractory to medical therapy
- temporary treatment prior to cardiac transplantation
- permanent replacement in case cardiac transplantation is contraindicated
Management
- patients with total artificial hearts do not respond to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) & should not receive ACLS medications or CPR[2]
Notes
- the Jarkik-7 was the 1st artifical heart
