Introduction

Normal weight (at autopsy)

  • women: 230-280 gm
  • men: 280-340 gm

Pathology

  • the heart increases in size & weight with aging, more so in men

Radiology

normal dimensions on Chest X-ray:

  • PA film
    • 8-9 cm in transverse direction
    • 12 cm from base to apex
  • lateral view: 6 cm
