Introduction

Staphylococcus aureus is distinguished from other Staphylococci by the production of coagulase.

2 antigenically distinct forms[2]

Plasma factor may induce release of cell-wall bound coagulase

Coagulase-thrombin complex forms & cleaves fibrinogen to form fibrin clot.
