Drug interactions
- Vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry) inhibits cyt P450 2C9, one of the cyt P450s that metabolize warfarin, thus ingestion of cranberry in patients taking warfarin (Coumadin) may increase the risk of bleeding
- a few cases of adverse reactions have been reported in Europe; it is not known how much cranberry is needed to cause a significant reaction, nor is it known if separating the doses helps
