• complex disorder with both genetic & environmental factors

Genetics

• associated with defects in WT1

Clinical manifestations

• urethra opens on the ventral side of the penis
• can occur alone on an apparently multifactorial basis or as part of a syndrome
• generally recognized upon visual examination of newborn

Laboratory

• WT1 gene mutation

Management

• surgical repair of hypospadias
