Structure
- a 4 layered peritoneal fold, formed by the double layer dorsal mesentery of the stomach descending from the greater curvature of the stomach to fold under on itself & ascend to the transverse colon
- the descending & ascending parts fuse, obliterating the interior recess of the omental bursa
- the result is a 4 layered structure that generally hangs over the anterior aspect of the intestines like an apron
