Introduction
Clear layer.
Occurrence
- the layer of epidermis just beneath the stratum corneum of the palms & soles (generally absent in other regions).*
- it consists of 2 or 3 layers of flat clear cells with atrophied nuclei
- layer of hippocampus containing basilar dendritic arborization of pyramidal cells.
Structure
* Layers of epidermis (from the surface) include:
- stratum corneum (keratin {horny} layer)
- stratum lucidum (clear layer) <palms & soles>
- stratum granulosum (granular layer)
- stratum spinosum (prickle cell layer)
- stratum basale (basal cell layer)
