Introduction

Clear layer.

Occurrence

• the layer of epidermis just beneath the stratum corneum of the palms & soles (generally absent in other regions).*
  • it consists of 2 or 3 layers of flat clear cells with atrophied nuclei
• layer of hippocampus containing basilar dendritic arborization of pyramidal cells.

Structure

• stratum corneum (keratin {horny} layer)
• stratum lucidum (clear layer) <palms & soles>
• stratum granulosum (granular layer)
• stratum spinosum (prickle cell layer)
• stratum basale (basal cell layer)
